University Blvd Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Simulation

University Blvd Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)
MVA scene overview with patient information

Features

  • 6-car Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), involving 3 minivans
  • Heavy vehicle damage requires extrication
  • Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) simulation, 6-30 patients can be created
  • Includes a medical helicopter flight to the scene, also jumps to trauma center and hangar
  • Forces crews to prioritize extrication resource assignments based on triage assessments

Summary

This simulation is an instructor favorite for introducing about 45 minutes of mass chaos into a class that's out of practice handling MCI's. A very simple simulation, but forces people to think, communicate, work together, and see just how hard it really is to manage an MCI!

Note this simulation build is an early effort on MCIs that suffers from some lessons learned, primarily handling patients and smoothly "moving" them from one crew to another with their triage information. Nevertheless, it does have many great teaching points and remains an instructor favorite despite its shortcomings. Many instructors choose to keep the computers preset to a specific location and instead have the players physically go from one computer to the next to assess and process the scene.
