Goldenrod Simulation
Features
SummaryThis simulation features a single -story commercial bar/restaurant building with attached exposures. Heavy fire in the main building should be defensive, but what about the exposures and search? This simulation provides the opportunity to train on multi-unit search, NIMS nomenclature for exposures, unexpected spread of fire, pulling ceiling to stop fire spread, etc. By varying the starting point of the fire, speed of progression, the number and location of victims, firefighters each time encounter something a little different requiring an adjustment in the tactical plan and assignment of resources.NOTE this simulation is an early design effort that has an abnormally fast frame rate (the smoke moves a little too fast). However, the speed of the various smoke sources remain relative to each other, thus Reading Smoke principles still apply (eg. smoke moves faster closer to seat of fire). A recent enhancement was done to add the side D exposure and make it searchable (previously it could not be entered). This enhancement was done to provide more tactical and resource challenges to players. This simulation continues to be an instructor favorite for discussing defensive fires and vacant buildings.
