Plaza Hotel Simulation
Features
SummaryThis simulation features a very old, upscale 2-story mixed-use hotel, with commercial downstairs and hotel rooms upstairs. With fires in multiple rooms upstairs capable of extending to the roof void space, this simulation covers complex operations in large buildings with significant life hazard. This simulation provides the opportunity to train on multi-unit search, building and exposure NIMS nomenclature, complex fire spread, evacuation, ventilation tactics, etc. By varying the starting point of the fire, speed of progression, the number and location of victims, firefighters each time encounter something a little different requiring an adjustment in the tactical plan and assignment of resources.Note this simulation build is an early effort that suffers from a lot of lessons learned applied to later simulaitons, e.g. wide-angle lense quality, frame rate (smoke speed), complex navigation, etc. There are also some interior scenes (e.g. upstairs hallway) that are missing smoke modeling at certain situation levels that were never completed by the designer. Nevertheless, it does have many great teaching points and remains an instructor favorite despite its shortcomings. Most instructors deal with the missing interior modeling by quietly describing the conditions the affected unit(s) would see at that moment.
